In order to have the privilege of coaching our youth hockey players, USA Hockey and Massachusetts Hockey have minimum standards and requirements that must be met and completed on an annual basis. You must complete all of the steps below in before you can step foot on the ice as coach and participate with your team.
Step 1 – Register with USA Hockey: Click or copy paste this USA Hockey Registration link: https://membership.usahockey.com and register with USA Hockey as a Coach.
Step 2 – Register with Stoneham Youth Hockey: Click or copy and paste this Stoneham Youth Hockey Registration link: https://www.leagueathletics.com/Registration/Restrictions.asp?RegID=320069&n=43362&org=syhockey.org and register with Stoneham Youth Hockey as a Coach
Step 3 – Complete Background Screening – Click or copy & paste this link: https://www.usahockey.com/backgroundscreen and complete the background screening. There is no added cost to complete this process as it is included in your USA Hockey Registration fee. (Please note you will need to upload a copy of your driver’s license so you may want to do that in advance.) Background Screening is valid for two (2) years.
Step 4 – Complete SafeSport Training– You must complete SafeSport online training. Even if you have completed it in the past, there are updates each and every season. Step 5 - Coaching Education – Clinics and Online Age-Specific Modules – All coaches (head and assistant) must be educated at the proper clinic level (1-5) for U10, U12, U14 and U18. These clinics are offered both online and in-person. Click or copy & paste this link https://www.usahockey.com/coachingcertification for specific information about USA Hockey’s CEP program. Clinics are offered from mid-August through late-December.
If you are assisting with Learn to Skate, I-Mites or Mites, you do not have to attend a coaching education clinic.
Age-Specific Modules USA Hockey has created age-specific training to assist coaches with the necessary information and tools that can be incorporated into practice planning and parent communications.
