Practice Procedures

To All Stoneham Youth Hockey Members:

Practices begin tomorrow at Stoneham Arena.  There procedures that we must follow – all forced upon us by the Town of Stoneham and Stoneham Arena.

Please take 15 minutes of your day and watch the four videos attached before you show up at Stoneham Arena for your first practice.  Coming to the Arena prepared will make this process easier for all of us and likely less anxious and stressful for you.

The videos describe the procedures when you get to the Arena.  I will walk you through a map of the arena and show you on screen where to go, what to do, and what to expect.  This is not perfect – we understand.  We will be constantly monitoring and working with the local officials to find ways to improve the processes to make it easier and safer for all.  These videos reflect what the Town of Stoneham currently wants us to do.  Our choice is not a choice at all – we either do this, or we cannot use the Arena.

We ask for your understanding, your patience, your cooperation, and your help ensuring the safe use of Stoneham Arena.  Please do not be the person that gets SYH banned.

Video 1:  Stoneham Arena Procedures – This video describes where to go, and what to do.  This video applies to all individuals entering the building.

Video 2:  Goalie Procedures – This video describes goalie specific procedures and the use of a goalie designated dressing area.

Video 3:  Midget and U18 Arena Procedures – This video describes the unique procedures for the high school age teams.

Video 4:  Check in Desk and Waivers – This video describes the procedure at the Check-In desk when you first arrive at the Arena and the Waivers that are necessary to skate at Stoneham Arena.

Also attached are the Waiver documents.  One is from the Town of Stoneham and the other is from Stoneham Youth Hockey.  These waivers are required to be signed and handed in prior to your first practice.  We will have extra Board Members and volunteers at Check-In to assist with this during week one.  To make the process easier, please print at home and bring completed signed forms with you.

Your cooperation and patience are always appreciated.

Warmly,

Mike Krasco

2020-2021 Merger and Reopening FAQ

Stoneham Youth Hockey Members

We hope this message finds everyone safe and healthy during this challenging time.   We miss all our players and families and are looking forward to a safe and successful return to the ice as soon as possible.

While you all were removed from the ice abruptly in March, the SYH Board of Directors has continued with business as usual planning for next season.  Your Board has continued to meet (virtually) to discuss the challenges that every organization faces in the framework of the current public health crisis, but also we have pressed forward with optimism that our kids will be playing hockey in September.

We are happy to share some exciting information about our program.   The SYH Board along with the North Reading Hockey Board has been collaborating on the best way to continue providing a fun hockey environment - stressing the importance of player development and affordability for all members of both programs.  With both programs aligned and sharing common goals, SYH and NRYH have principally agreed to merge over a two-year period beginning in the 2020-2021 season.  There is still much to work out.

For the 2020-2021 season, at the Squirt and PeeWee levels – teams will be combined, SYH-NRYH teams.  At all other levels in 2020-2021, we will cooperate and share practice ice when appropriate.  Over the next 24 months, we will work towards formally combining two organizations into one.  We expect that ALL teams at all levels and all instructional programs for the 2021-2022 season will be combined.  Currently, there is no plan in place to combine and/or cooperate with high-school-age teams (Midgets and/or U18 Girls).
